Indeed, when one animal is different from this rest of the pack in some way, it is literally almost rejected straight away by the group or family that it is supposed to belong to. When this happens even amongst humans, there can be devastating consequences for the one that is abandoned. For instance, the animal that is classes as \u2018different\u2019 can starve to death either through physical disfigurement or through no loving care from its mother. The rejected creature can also start to behave in a manner that is not classes as socially acceptable just like in the human race and then be rejected for that as well. The animals are a way of trying to nullify my own personal feelings and experiences of social rejection from the past. The odd creature in this landscape is indeed the shark hippo hybrid on the left. It does not fit into the group of hippos that are play fighting or that are involved in some kind of action. The hybrid is very much on the periphery. It is not in on the action with it\u2019s so-called \u2018mates\u2019 it is just a spectator that has gone unnoticed. Indeed the misfit looks like so much of a sore thumb that its shark head looks pathetically small and it is obvious that it could not do any damage with its small mouth. As the title suggests \u2018Hey watch me\u2019 indicates, the hybrid desperately wants attention but it is simply being ignored and rejected. As so often happens in school playgrounds of the targets of school bullies. This always happens in society of al walks of life. Bullies bully those who they think are weaker than themselves. The title \u2018Hey It\u2019s Mine\u2019! indicates this by the victim, the hybrid saying get of my dinner it is mine! In any given social group, particularly when it is of three participants, one will always be left out or be classed as the odd one out. Hence the title of the painting. Both environments from a hot arid lion\u2019s den and a school playground have one thing in common. A total lack of understanding and a total lack of empathy. Bullying occurs in both. The two lions approaching from the right are going to join in on the fight and bully the \u2018outcast\u2019 as well. If someone is just seen as a follower, then they are not seen as something that is unique or interesting. They are looked upon as ordinary or even boring. Whereas, if someone is being followed, this could either have positive or negative connotations. In this work, the hybrid is seen as the animal at the front of the other two, so it is either being followed or chased. Both of which could have good connotations or bad ones. If someone or something in life is seen as \u2018different\u2019 or as something that does not \u2018fit in\u2019, then it is either chased as it is seen as a threat or it is simply ignored. As the title suggests \u2018Don\u2019t take The Piss\u2019 it represents a long time of social rejection and bullying finally coming to the surface. Often one should celebrate \u2018difference\u2019 as a unique and beautiful thing but in our world, this often does not happen. Sadly, people and indeed the animal kingdom and the animals within it totally reject a creature that is not in their image. In nature, it can be seen that lions would not normally dare attack something that is bigger, then themselves but it does happen. As this hybrid elephant was rejected by elephants, it too was rejected by the lions it came into contact with, so it does not fit into either group. It is an outcast.  A loner. As the title suggests \u2018Don\u2019t take The Piss\u2019 it represents a long time of social rejection and bullying finally coming to the surface. Often one should celebrate \u2018difference\u2019 as a unique and beautiful thing but in our world, this often does not happen. Sadly, people and indeed the animal kingdom and the animals within it totally reject a creature that is not in their image. In nature, it can be seen that lions would not normally dare attack something that is bigger, then themselves but it does happen. As this hybrid elephant was rejected by elephants, it too was rejected by the lions it came into contact with, so it does not fit into either group. It is an outcast.  A loner. Meaning that I am trying to give a sense of what it means to be different of what it feels like when something that does not conform. The result of an underlying hatred to something that does not fit in. The \u2018other\u2019 the hybrid is the misfit here; it is being chased and taunted by two animals that are considered normal\u2019. The fact that it is a deer shark hybrid renders it useless as a top predator as it would be in the sea. The fact that a hybrid or the thing that does not fit in often feels useless and unloved. The shark is a metaphor of being the \u2018fish out of water\u2019 so to speak. I wanted to convey movement where one can see kicked up earth on the ground where the running legs of the hybrid are as well. The one being mocked here is the hybrid lion and tiger on the right of the composition. It is being chased and mocked by the tiger on the left. The reason why there is another tiger in the far-left hand side of the composition is because it is not only watching the spectacle scene of mockery here but also it has egged on the tiger on the left that\u2019s chasing the hybrid in the first place. This scene is much like a metaphor of a school playground where the \u2018head bully\u2019 coaxes on its minions to bully those that do not fit in or those that do not conform to what it is supposed to be classed as \u2018normal.\u2019 Those that are different in some way or are unfamiliar to what we regard as socially acceptable or normal gets mocked and chased for being different especially in such ruthless places like a school playground. Such as it is in the animal kingdom, that when one animal amongst a whole load of newborns is classed or seen as different from the rest, it often gets rejected straight away and sometimes even killed. The mother rejects it and then so does its siblings. Such coldness in the animal world is also sadly reciprocated here in the world of human beings too. The effects of being \u2018different\u2019 can have devastating consequences. The \u2019reject\u2019 or \u2018outsider\u2019 can build feelings of resentment or anger and can actually turn on their peers when provoked. Such unhappy feelings can turn into something ugly and distorted.
